Mr. President: How Many Times are you going to Sell Us the Brooklyn Bridge?
Let’s Buy it One More Time… So Says Obama
As the President talks of bridges that are about to collapse, he forgets that he has promised us infrastructure and bridge repair in the prior “stimulus.” He even cited the Mississippi River bridge collapse in Minnesota collapse that happened in 2007 as a part of the reason or justification for some of the prior stimulus. Â (Learn about the Mississippi River bridge collapse here.)
The Democrat stimulus – according that Associated Press story – FAILED TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR BRIDGES – even though bridges were mentioned as a key reason. Â Let’s get an excerpt from an AP story two years back that tells the true story of why the money did not get used on bridges in the first place:
This analysis found that:
 • Many states did not make bridge work a priority in stimulus spending. More than half plan work on fewer than two dozen bridges and 18 states plan fewer than 10 projects.
 • In 24 states, at least half of the bridges being worked on with stimulus money were not deficient.
 • In 15 states, at least two-thirds of the bridges receiving stimulus money are not deficient.
Transportation officials said the stimulus program’s mandates — shovel-ready projects that can be finished in three years and create jobs quickly — made it nearly impossible to focus on bad bridges that weren’t already scheduled for repairs.  (END OF EXCERPT)
There are slightly different versions of the AP story archived so here are both: Â WILLIAMSON DAILY NEWS and a site called “Sweetness & Light” – ITS LINK HERE.
My take is that the President is trying to sell us the Brooklyn Bridge all over again. Â His famous suggestion that some shovel ready jobs were not so shovel ready was taken lightly by most at the time, but the Democrats wrote the rules. Pelosi and her gang did not even let the Republicans get into this process. Â They have nobody to blame but themselves.
I am stunned as I watch this debate, and I am sure that our Republican’s in the House will stop any such spending spree again. I do not think they will be buying the Brooklyn Bridge – again.
