Got a notice that a census form will be arriving soon.
It is in English, Spanish, and two languages that look to be Chinese or Korean, one that looks like Vietnamese, and one that looks to be Russian.
Welcome to Amerika.

I got a letter from the census today
Richard N. Weltz
There in my mail was an envelope clearly marked to show it came from the US Bureau of the Census and that said Bureau had duly paid a first-class postal rate to send it to me.
Kind of light and thin, so I took it to be a short form questionnaire to be filled out and returned; but it wasn't. It was a letter telling me that I would be receiving the actual census form soon in the mail — and would I kindly be good enough to fill it out and mail it back.
Then a gratuitous paragraph explained that this would be important because it would help determine how much money (read “pork”) would be allocated to my community. No mention of the actual reason designated for a census by our Constitution: for the purpose of apportioning among the states their representation in the lower House.
Part of the letter's text was also printed below the main body in Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Korean, and Vietnamese.
Presumably, tens or hundreds of millions copies of this useless missive is being sent out at taxpayer expense — which must be enormous — for printing, translation, typesetting in foreign languages and non-Latin scripts (I know a little about that part, having been in the business for decades), postage, addressing, presorting, and mailing.
How much more money — in this time of recession — is being wasted by this administration in the running of the 2010 census project? I shudder to think.

I got the form and in one way was relieved….in another way disappointed. I had heard all these horror stories about how they asked pages and pages of privacy-invasive questions, like how much you made and how many miles you drive to work, etc…..but the form I received wasn't like that at all. In fact, the questions were simple to answer, and as far as I could see, not invasive at all. However, I was gravely disappointed at the focus of the questions. At the very least, the census form was grossly racist in nature, most of the questions dealing with “the race of all the people living at this address”. At first I thought, “good, they're cracking down on illegal aliens” or something like that….but I believe I know the feds better than that.

The ONLY questions I will answer are: How many people live at this address and their names and ages…I will not tell them how many bedrooms, bathrooms, sinks, stoves, etc are in the house…the only thing that is required by the constitution is How many, names and ages…all other questions will be X'ed out and “Not Required by Constitution” statement will be placed in that box…I wanted to put in “None of your *&%$( business” in the box but the wife and I settled on the other…

Can I ask a simple question: Who does not have a house that wants one and can afford one, and does not need money from the government to buy one, and is not in danger of losing their job?

I got mine in the mail the other day, but haven't opened it.
OT, what really pissed me off is that on my mother's death certificate recently, they had all kinds of boxes to indicate what race she was and it was checked off that she was non-hispanic caucasian! She was Caucasian dammit! Plain and simple!

Ginny, this pisses me off, too! A classification of “non-Hispanic Caucasian” seems to have the connotation that somehow, being non-Hispanic is some kind of negative thing. Imagine if they had put a classification like “non-Caucasian Black” on the census form. It would come to about the same thing. That census form will piss you off too, once you open it….as a good percentage of the questions on it are racially-oriented. If our government is trying to overcome racial bias, they really suck at it.

Yes!!! This is also recommended by Michelle Malkin and Glenn Beck.
And I have a question I would ask the census people: In a case of mixed race–50-50, as is our President–would this person be considered “black”, as our President is, or “white”, which is certainly not the case, or “mixed”, in which case why would we need to know the race at all?
Will someone explain this to me?
Here are the questions:

Flash!!!
Rush Limbaugh ALSO just advocated checking “Other” box for the “Race” question, and then writing in AMERICAN!!!
I am definitely, positively going to do this. And I heartily encourage all fellow Nobamans do the same.

Recently in school i was pulled to the office because they had my race confused. Of course im like uhh WTF? So they give me a letter, (how racist is this) that because my middle and last names are hispanic origin they needed to know if i was a hispanic.
Long story short, dad gets pissed, checks prefers not to answer, and the damn school puts me down as HISPANIC/LATINO.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all… The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic… There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else. – Teddy Roosevelt

I got this from their site..
I’m concerned that the 2010 Census will ask a bunch of intrusive questions.
The 2010 Census will actually be one of the shortest and simplest in U.S. history. It will ask just 10 basic questions including:
- Name
- Sex <—-just for grins..I may just put “Sometimes” for this question.
- Age and date of birth
- Hispanic origin <——-What??????? What about my Dutch Origin? Or my Irish origin? How about my CHEROKEE origin?
- Race
- Household relationship
- If you own or rent your home <————This for sure will be a NOYDB answer

Finally opened the letter and it was just the one to let me know the census was on its way.
It seems like the best thing to do is to check the “other” box and write in “American”.
I am still reallly po'd about my mother's death certificate though. Imagine, you spend 82 years in this country, born here and proud of your Swedish heritage, like she was, and now she has been reduced to a “non” something.
And DM 17, it really concerns me that they are pulling kids from class because there is a “suspicion” due to their names.
Your father should be really angry.

Here are the questions, and the Census Bureau's explanation for each question. I didn't change anything from their website http://2010.census.gov/2010cen…..t-form.phpat all, except to add numbers so we can refer to specific questions for discussion. Now, how are we REALLY going to answer this thing? I will show you how “our family” will in a following post.—Time To Regroup 2008
1. How many people were living or staying in this house, apartment, or mobile home on April 1, 2010?
We ask this question to help get an accurate count of the number of people in the household on Census Day, April 1, 2010. The answer should be based on the guidelines in the 'Start here' section. We use the information to ensure response accuracy and completeness and to contact respondents whose forms have incomplete or missing information.
2. Were there any additional people staying here April 1, 2010 that you did not include in Question 1?
Asked since 1880. We ask this question to help identify people who may have been excluded in the count provided in Question 1. We use the information to ensure response accuracy and completeness and to contact respondents whose forms have incomplete or missing information.
3. Is this house, apartment, or mobile home: owned with mortgage, owned without mortgage, rented, occupied without rent?
Asked since 1890. Homeownership rates serve as an indicator of the nation's economy. The data are also used to administer housing programs and to inform planning decisions.
4. What is your telephone number?
We ask for a phone number in case we need to contact a respondent when a form is returned with incomplete or missing information.
5. Please provide information for each person living here. Start with a person here who owns or rents this house, apartment, or mobile home. If the owner or renter lives somewhere else, start with any adult living here. This will be Person 1. What is Person 1's name?
Listing the name of each person in the household helps the respondent to include all members, particularly in large households where a respondent may forget who was counted and who was not. Also, names are needed if additional information about an individual must be obtained to complete the census form. Federal law protects the confidentiality of personal information, including names.
6. What is Person 1's sex?
Asked since 1790. Census data about sex are important because many federal programs must differentiate between males and females for funding, implementing and evaluating their programs. For instance, laws promoting equal employment opportunity for women require census data on sex. Also, sociologists, economists, and other researchers who analyze social and economic trends use the data.
7. What is Person 1's age and Date of Birth?
Asked since 1800. Federal, state, and local governments need data about age to interpret most social and economic characteristics, such as forecasting the number of people eligible for Social Security or Medicare benefits. The data are widely used in planning and evaluating government programs and policies that provide funds or services for children, working-age adults, women of childbearing age, or the older population.
8. Is Person 1 of Hispanic, Latino or Spanish origin?
Asked since 1970. The data collected in this question are needed by federal agencies to monitor compliance with anti-discrimination provisions, such as under the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act. State and local governments may use the data to help plan and administer bilingual programs for people of Hispanic origin.
9. What is Person 1's race?
Asked since 1790. Race is key to implementing many federal laws and is needed to monitor compliance with the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act. State governments use the data to determine congressional, state and local voting districts. Race data are also used to assess fairness of employment practices, to monitor racial disparities in characteristics such as health and education and to plan and obtain funds for public services.
10. Does Person 1 sometimes live or stay somewhere else?
This is another question we ask in order to ensure response accuracy and completeness and to contact respondents whose forms have incomplete or missing information.

The U.S. Census Bureau today began mailing advance letters to about 120 million addresses nationwide, notifying households that 2010 Census forms will be arriving March 15-17. The one-page letter urges households to complete the 10-question census form when it arrives and to return it in the accompanying prepaid envelope as soon as possible.
There is a poll on the page as to what you think of the letter telling you that you will get a letter.

Welcome to Amerika.
Ain't that the truth!! I saw that when I received mine and was instantly ticked off!!
The first words of disgust outta my mouth were.. “This is America, what the hell do I need with all these OTHER languages”?
Same with the “non-hispanic” label…. I'm not english-american, or irish-american.. I'm just AMERICAN.. like it's lesser than African-American or something? Until we are all just “Americans”.. there will always be racism, and bias. Whatever happened to the HUMAN race? I don't even like the word “race” because it references some sort of contest? lol.
