There is this disturbing trend of the national media associating Tea Party members and the GOP with these militia members that run around the country with their guns ready to get involved in anything they think might make them feel important.
We all saw what happened with Cliven Bundy, that Clark County, Nevada rancher, who just decided he was not going to pay grazing rights to the federal government. He decided that he alone would take a stand and simply not pay these grazing rights for more than a decade because they were once free. I realize that taking away such rights can be seen as an abuse of federal agencies and their power over such lands. Bundy had every opportunity to put his money where his mouth was and challenge it in the court systems. Of course it would have cost him millions more and he would likely have gone bankrupt. Bundy had no right to physically start a gun battle with federal agents. Of course, he did not.
What did happen as we all recall was all of these Timothy McVeigh types showed up in POS cars and trucks, with their guns and rifles. Many were so-called “militia members” who somehow rationalized that a gun battle with the federal government was called for. Every Sean Hannity was sucked into this one, and – in my opinion – made one of his biggest mistakes in all of his Fox News career. While he did not advocate militia members coming, Bundy and his family were quite happy to see it. Hannity trumpeted Bundy until he made his racist statements. Had that blown up, Hannity, and others like him that hyped this, would have had some moral responsibility.
Now we have “militia members” out to “protect our border.” They are starting to become a real problem for our border patrol agents. They have enough to worry about to have to deal with when it comes to the illegal aliens crossing the borders, brought by the drug gangs. Militia crazies running around the border with guns trying to keep the illegal aliens from crossing into the United States only puts the border agents at risk. They have no right, no jurisdiction (anywhere), and they need to butt out. If they get shot and killed doing this, too bad for them. Continue Reading
