My mother-in-law is from El Salvador. The Catholic Church was totally on board in El Salvador with taking land and money from the "rich" (anyone that owned land) and giving it to the "poor" of the country. Some of what happened to her family was basically blessed if not sanctioned by the Catholic Church. She's immigrated here in the early '60's for college and got married to my father-in-law, but she has a sister still there and many other relatives. What really happened is a stable country became a dangerous country as all out class warfare, orchestrated in part by the church, became all out civil war. We all remember the famous case of the nuns killed in El Salvador. The Catholic Church got itself in the middle of this push for Socialism, and there are atrocities that happened that should not have happend. I would love to see the country, but my mother-in-law says it is still way too dangerous. Americans would be kidnapped instantly in the wrong area.
